Fortrose and Rosemarkie Community Council

Have Your Say - Deadline 29th Sept

Added at 10:12 on 16 September 2025

Did you know that some of the land around our villages is held as "Common Good Land" ?

Along with other assets previously beloonging to the Royal Burgh, it is now owned and administed on our behalf by The Highand Council.  Any income from these properties is allocated to Common Good funds, which can then be used in the villages.  For example, Common Good funding was used recently to commission and install the new handrails at the St Andrew's steps in Fortrose.

One Common Good property in Fortrose is currently leased for use as the Golf Club car park.  Another is currently leased to the Rosemarkie Caravan park.  the leases for these two properties are now under review.

Because the Council proposes to lease them for more than 10 years (20 years and 30 years respectively), they must run a consultation on each with Fortrose and Rosemarkie residents and take our views into account.

The two consultations, and a description of the process involved, are available on the Highland Council website.

Note that each property has its own consultaiton and they need to be responded to separately.  Residents can respond directly to either to both consultations - the links are on the Council website if you want to respond to them directly.

The Community Council is actively considering its own response.  It was discussed in detail at this month's Community Council meeting and you may find the minutes helpful in considering some of the issues involved.  You'll find them HERE.

If you want to share your view, please email us at fortroseandrosemarkie@gmail.com or if, it's easier, text us on 07498 431476.
