Greetings! Hi Hi there Hi And here is the reply
Your father is still remembered and was known as Jackie Ross. Hello
Here is a photo of a bench seat which was installed on the beach footpath on 24 May 2007. The bench was paid for by Anne Holm as a memorial to Gordon Davidson Holm.

,
I have been reading your interesting and informative web site and must congratulate you the general information. I am undertaking family research and have found that my grand parents John and Margaret Webster lived in Rosemarkie certainly in 1921 when their 4th child Caroline Mary was born and the address in her birth certificate was Corslate Cottage - Rosemarkie.
I can identify a Corslet ( Estate ) just to the north west of the town on the A 832 road leading to Cromarty and wonder if anyone can confirm if this might be the same location.
John Webster my grandfather was a "Woodcutter" to trade. His previous child William was born in Forres in 1919 and the next child Isabella in 1925 again back in Forres so the family resided in Rosemarkie for only a few years.
Perhaps attracted to the area because of woodcutting work on the estate? I would assume the children would have gone to the local primary school and wonder if anyone can direct to me to where local school records are kept for this period.
I look forward to hearing if anyone can assist in my investigation.
Richard Webster

Have been visiting your site as I have an interest in the name
Rosemarkie. My house in Ashfield, a suburb of Sydney Australia, was
built in 1892 and is named Rosemarkie. I believe that Rosemarkie was
the town that one of the original owners was from. Mr James Cornwell
from the Community Council is putting together a package for us
including the new & old Council Crests. Really looking forward to
receiving it.
Here's a quick history of our house hoping it may supply further
information.
The parcel of land on which our house is situated was originally 100
acres that the Crown granted to Thomas Rawdon, John Jones, Francis
McKewen & John Butcher. (We have tried to find if these were First
Fleeters or wherever they may have come from but to no avail).
1st September 1892 - First owner was Benjamin Rhodes who was a
Congregational Minister. (He I think, bought the land from Thomas
Halmore, and Rhodes built the house).
25th March 1918 it was owned by William & Flora Palmer McIvor. I think
the McIvors came from Rosemarkie.
16th August 1951 it was owned by Alexander and Annie McIntosh. The
McIntosh's are related to the McIvors.
We will keep an eye on the website for further updates and news!
Many thanks

Here is an e-mail received in May 2002 from New Zealand. If anyone can help please reply through this site and we will pass it on.
I am writing from New Zealand.
My wife and teenage son and I will be visiting Scotland in November and we are interested in tracking down some family history.
My great great grandfather was Revd Duncan Mackenzie (of the Episcopal Church) and I know that he was married in Rosemarkie to Mary Jackson of York on 20th July 1841. I have a copy of the parish entry and it lists him as from Fortrose.
I know that he went on to be a minister in Fort William (approx 1827-49 according to one source) and Ballachulish (1861-79). Another document I have says that his son Duncan was born in the parish of Rosemarkie in 1848 (plus or minus 1 year).
I am interested to find out some more information and would welcome any comments from you about how we would go about this both from this end and if we were to visit (it would be about the last week of November or first week of December).
Is there anyone local who would be good for me to contact for more information of this sort. Feel free to pass this message on if you think anyone can be of help.
Thankyou.
Alistair Mackenzie
Here is another e-mail, this one from Australia, trying to trace forebears. If anyone can help please reply through this site and we will pass it on.
Here is an e-mail received in March 2006 in reply to Jocelyn's
My name is Jocelyn Blackmore, I live in Victoria, Australia and my forebears (about 3 generations ago) lived in Rosemarkie. Their names were Donald More and Margaret Elder.
I visited Rosemarkie about 6 yrs ago and thought it was a lovely place, but now I would really like to have a map of the town as it was in the early 1800's when my family lived there.
If it is possible you could email this info to me and I would be eternally grateful.
Thank you for this facility.
Regards Jocelyn.
I have just discovered my great great great grandparents were from Rosemarkie, while looking for information I discovered your site and that a lady called Joclyn already wrote to you regarding a Donald More and Margaret Elder, these are my ancestors too. I would really appreciate it if you could either send her my details or let me have her email address.
From the information and picture sites I have found it looks like my ancestors had a really lovely place to live, my husband and I are now retired and we have said that we won't make any further trips to Scotland as the flight is getting too much for us now, but, never say never I always say and Rosemarkie looks too good to pass up.
Thank you for your assistance.

Your aunt, Mrs Margaret Grigor, widow of William Grigor, still lives at Hopefield Farm,Eathie Road, Rosemarkie. They had no family.
Kinnock Farm is presently known as Flowerburn Mains and is near Hopefield Farm. It was called Flowerburn before Kinnock and is now Flowerburn again.
Here is an information request
Could somebody please E-mail me the etymology of Rosemarkie?
Thank you very much.
